Back by popular demand, thank you for asking! They are one of my absolute favourites to make.
Yarn x velvet x ceramic
This series of work explores coral landscapes.
Hand embroidery sits delicately on the softest ‘sunshine yellow’ velvet, I have used Ceramics, French knots, bullion stitch and running stitch to create this textural embroidery.
I have used; cotton yarn.
The ceramic embellishments are made from porcelain, the porcelain has been mixed with a 'calcium borate frit' (quite simply this is crushed glass) to make it much stronger and more durable than normal fired porcelain. When you fire it, the glass melts within the porcelain and means it is stronger than normal porcelain.
All elements are hand made and no two alike due to the firing process of the ceramics and hand dyed silk and yarn.
Secured in a 12 inch wooden hoop & painted in 'Farrow & Balls' Wimborne White.
